In addition to our lamb and cheese, we have blankets, lamb skins, bath soaps and sausage for sale.
After shearing in the spring, I send our wool to a mill that spins it and weaves it into lovely mid-weight blankets in the natural colors of the wool. Lightweight but warm, we love these blankets. I still have a few blankets left from last season's wool: several queens (78" x 104") for $350 each, 2 fulls (78" x 90") for $300 each and 3 lap robes (48" x 60"), pefect as sofa-throws, at $180 each. If you would like to buy a blanket, please send me an email with "blanket" in the subject line. If you live in California there will be sales tax on the blanket, and there will also be shipping charges, roughly $20 for FedEx ground.
Each year when our lambs are harvested for meat, we have some of the pelts tanned and made into fluffy washable lamb skins that work well as rugs or throws. We use them on the back of our couch and also as soft rugs to step on when we get out of bed in the morning. Lambskins are sold out for 2011, but I will keep a waiting list for the 2012 lambskins. Email me if you want to be on the waiting list. We sold the lambskins for $200 each this season and hope to keep that price in 2012.
Our sausage is made for us from the meat of older ewes when they need to be harvested. We are so happy to be able to honor our beloved animals by making them into a quality food product, rather than having to take them to auction. All of our sausages have some added pork for texture and flavor. We have two varieties of sausage: bratwurst and hot-Italian. The sausage retails direct from us for $9/lb to our mailing list. You can also find it at Cheese Plus in San Francisco, and on the menu at Osteria Stellina in Point Reyes Station.
I also make bath soaps from the small amount of milk that comes out of the pipes in our milking parlor at the end of each milking. It is beautiful milk but we cannot put it in the bulk tank to use for cheese. My sheep-milk bath soaps are made with lanolin, aloe vera and essential oils. The lather is rich and gentle and the soaps are long-lasting. They are not molded soaps, they are rough-cut from a sheet and i think they look a little like vanilla fudge. I like to say these are not soaps to decorate with, they are soaps to use and enjoy. As the bars are slightly different sizes, I sell them by the ounce, for $2/ounce. They are available to our mailing list or you can email me if you want to buy some.
